Diabetes health psychology services

Our health psychologists are trained in diabetes management, and provide specialized services to help you feel better emotionally and physically. They can work with you to change behavior patterns that negatively affect diabetes control, and help you improve your social support at home, work or school.

Health psychologists at International Diabetes Center work with people who have diabetes to help manage feelings, behaviors and thoughts that may cause personal or family struggles. Our health psychologists help people with diabetes:

  • maintain motivation to manage diabetes
  • set realistic goals and use positive feedback to improve diabetes management
  • learn assertiveness, problem-solving and relaxation skills
  • learn skills to help communicate with family, friends and health care professionals
  • communicate with bosses, co-workers and school officials about diabetes issues

Health psychologists may use individual psychotherapy, family therapy or group therapy, and will coordinate their efforts with other members of the treatment team.

Most International Diabetes Center services are covered by your insurance. Please contact your insurance company about your benefits before scheduling an appointment with a health psychologist. If a referral is required, contact your primary health care provider. For questions or to make an appointment, call 952-993-3393 or toll-free at 888-825-6315.
