Travel

Keeping your diabetes in check and staying healthy during travel is necessary for feeling your best and enjoying your time away from home. Unfortunately, taking a vacation from diabetes is not possible. The good news is that it is possible to travel without diabetes getting in the way of your fun.

Making a list of things to do and pack can help minimize travel fiascos. Remember to have your prescriptions filled ahead of time and include your medications, blood testing supplies, insulin pump supplies, glucagon, syringes, snack foods or other important items you may need.

It also can be helpful to talk to your health care provider before you travel to adjust your care plan for your vacation schedule. Your activity level and food intake might be different from what you are used to. Planning for this before you travel can help you keep your blood glucose levels on target.
