Outpatient levels 1-4

This is the least intensive of our outpatient levels, with one-on-one sessions with the core treatment team, typically starting at one time per week.

Program

• Number of individual and group sessions will vary according to patient needs.
• Includes one-on-one sessions with team members (medical doctor, registered dietitian and licensed psychologist). Individual sessions with a psychiatrist also are available.
• Group sessions (nutrition or psychotherapy) are available.

Program goals

Help participants:

• work toward or maintain a healthy body weight and medical stability
• work toward reducing eating disorder symptoms
• with ongoing treatment and recovery through one-on-one and group sessions, if needed

This treatment level is slightly more intense than level one, with more hours in programming, the addition of meal sessions and group outings.

Program

• Three hours of group programming, two to four times each week, for four weeks
• Nutritional support, education and psychotherapy
• Meal at each group meeting (supervised by a registered dietitian)
• Supervised group outings
• Visits with medical doctor, registered dietitian and licensed psychologist each week
• Consultation with psychiatrist

Program goals

Help participants:

• continue treatment and recovery through one-on-one and group sessions
• become confident in ability to change behaviors
• create an action plan to change specific behaviors
• see if the new behavior plan is working
• plan ongoing treatment and recovery goals

Comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment program transitions patients back to life outside the treatment facility.

Program

• Three to five hours of group programming (psychotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, education and nutrition) three to five days each week
• Trained staff (registered dietitians and health educators) observe patients eat one to three meals and one to two snacks each day
• Individual psychotherapy twice a week, as needed
• Family therapy (for adolescents) once a week, or more as needed
• Visits with a medical doctor one to two times each week
• Visits with a psychiatrist once a week, or more as needed
• Weekly supervised group outings into the community (such as grocery shopping, restaurant eating).
• Group support and education program for all participants and their friends and families each week

Program goals

Help participants:

• plan for evenings and weekends at home and away from the treatment facility
• focus on maintaining weight, or moving toward a goal body mass index (BMI) and reducing eating disorder symptoms

Intensive, multidisciplinary treatment program transitions patients from the treatment facility to the outside world.

Program

• Eight to 12 hours of group programming five to six days per week, usually 20 to 30 days. Programming includes psychotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, education and nutrition
• Trained staff (registered dietitians and health educators) observe patients eat one to three meals and one to two snacks each day
• Individual psychotherapy twice weekly, as needed
• Family therapy (for adolescents) weekly, or more as needed
• Medical visits with a medical doctor one to two times each week
• Visits with a psychiatrist once a week, or more as needed
• Weekly supervised group outings into the community (such as grocery shopping and restaurant eating)
• Group support and education program for all patients, their friends and families each week

Program goals

Help participants:

• plan for evenings and weekends at home away from Melrose Institute
• focus on maintaining weight, moving toward a goal body mass index (BMI) and reducing eating disorder symptoms
