Diabetes

Eating disorders paired with diabetes can be a life-threatening combination. Diabetes researchers estimate people who have type 1 diabetes (formerly "juvenile-onset diabetes") have twice the risk of developing an eating disorder.

Melrose Institute collaborates with International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet to treat people struggling with the dual diagnosis of an eating disorder and type 1 diabetes.

Care teams include pediatric and adult endocrinologists, psychiatrist, psychologist, diabetes nurse educator and diabetes nutrition educator. A nurse care manager helps coordinate treatment, keeps communication consistent and answers questions for patients and families.

To learn more or schedule an initial assessment, call 952-993-6200.

If you have questions about type 2 diabetes, visit International Diabetes Center.
