Nature helps nurture eating disorder patients

Park Nicollet Melrose Institute for eating disordersIntegrating building design with natural surroundings and respect for the environment has propelled Park Nicollet to the top of the local architecture community. Park Nicollet Melrose Institute, scheduled to open in early 2009, recently won the “Best in Real Estate” award from Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

The three story, 67,000 square foot facility will be home to Park Nicollet’s nationally recognized eating disorder program (currently known as Methodist Hospital Eating Disorders Institute). The new facility, with outdoor healing gardens, will overlook Bass Lake Preserve in St. Louis Park. “Every medical facility can benefit from a connection to nature, more sunlight and comfortable rooms,” writes the Business Journal. “…but when treating eating disorders, these elements become especially crucial in helping patients to overcome their sense of isolation and create healthy habits.”
