Seizures

A seizure occurs when the electrical signals in the brain are disrupted. During a seizure, the brain and nervous system malfunction and the person having the seizure may experience anything from a few minutes of confusion to total unconsciousness. A person who has epilepsy has recurring seizures.

What to do About Seizures
Unconscious or disoriented Symptoms can usually be treated at home. If symptoms persist, you should call your doctor for advice.
Seizure in an infant with a high fever Symptoms may be treated at home or they may require a visit to your doctor. Usually you and your doctor need to share additional information about your condition to decide what is best for you.
Signs of injury or illness Symptoms need to be evaluated by a doctor. When you call to make an appointment, your doctor will help you determine how soon you need to be seen.
