Your first visit, Heart Clinic

Arrival

Your first visit to Heart ClinicPlease plan to arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment to allow for time to fill out any paperwork. Please park in the Blue Ramp. Bring your parking ticket inside with you so we can give you a discount; parking will cost $2. Follow the directional signs on First Floor to the Heart Clinic and check in at the front desk.

The receptionist will verify your demographics and ask to see your insurance card. This also is the time to give the receptionist your parking ticket. The receptionist will ask you to fill out a few forms, including your medical history and a consent form. If you are on Medicare and retired, you may be asked for your retirement date. If you have a copayment, you will pay it at this time with cash, check or credit card.

A nurse will greet you in the lobby and take you to an exam room. The nurse will check your weight, blood pressure and heart rate. They will go over your medical history, ask you which, if any, medications you take and the dosages, discuss any symptoms you may be having, then get your doctor.

Consultation with your doctor

Your doctor will meet with you and determine whether tests or treatments are needed. We suggest bringing a list of questions you want to ask your doctor. We also encourage you to bring an advocate with you, as there may be a lot of information to take in. Your first appointment generally lasts between 30 minutes to an hour.

Tests and treatments

If you need any tests or treatments, you will meet with our scheduler. If you need immediate care, you will be scheduled for it right away. Otherwise, appointments are generally within a week. The scheduler will give you any instructions you must follow before your test so you leave knowing what to expect. If you need any blood drawn, a lab is conveniently located in the Heart Clinic.

If the doctor changes your medication, there is a Prescriptions @ Park Nicollet located in the Health & Care store on the first floor.

If you have more questions after you leave, call 952-993-3246 and let them know you have a follow-up question.
