Highlights in education, research and innovation

  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded the Institute more than $1 million over three years for "Weight Loss and Activity in Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis" for guidelines in arthritis management beyond acute medical care.

  The Office of Continuing Medical Education  received a six-year accreditation with commendation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). ACCME awarded the office exemplary compliance findings in purpose and mission, planning process, needs assessment, evaluation, disclosure and commercial support standards.

  More than 1,600 people attended the first "Taking Control of Your Diabetes" conference in Minneapolis. International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet co-sponsored the
  event, which featured seminars and one-on-one sessions important to diabetes management.

  The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality awarded a three-year, $400,000 grant to the Institute and HealthFront for "Partnerships in Quality" to design a community assessment of quality incentives, develop an incentive simulation model and evaluate the impact of changes.

  Arneson Methodist Library received a grant from Park Nicollet Foundation for a consumer health library of print, electronic and audiovisual consumer health materials. The library, for Park Nicollet patients and the community, will provide Park Nicollet patient education materials and externally published resources to help people learn more about their conditions.

  Jinnet B. Fowles, PhD, Health Research Center, spent three months as a fellow in Washington D.C. at the request of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to help develop legislation to advance quality in health care.

  International Diabetes Center's designation as a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Diabetes Education, Translation and Computer Technology was renewed for an additional four years.

  "Being Healthy Rocks!" a kid-friendly educational tool developed by International Diabetes Center and Park Nicollet Health Innovations, received the Pediatric Diabetes Nutrition Education award from American Dietetic Association's Diabetes Education and Care. This award recognizes creative and innovative approaches in diabetes nutrition and education for children.
