More than 46,000 patients a year are cared for at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital's Emergency Center. Specialized care teams made up of board-certified emergency doctors, registered nurses and other professionals diagnose and treat medical conditions that range from life-threatening or traumatic injuries to minor illnesses.

The emergency center is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It offers a complete range of emergency services and includes the following:

• a triage area, where registered nurses assess patients upon arrival to determine the severity of their medical condition
• state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment
• leading-edge medications and techniques to stop heart attacks and strokes before they cause permanent damage
• radio communication systems linking Methodist Hospital's emergency center to helicopter and ambulance services across Minnesota
• digital electrocardiograms (ECG) data can be transmitted electronically from the ambulance en route to the emergency center, providing faster care for heart attack patients
• 24 acute care beds
