Safety, security
The safety and security of your baby are as important to us as your baby’s health. When your baby has a Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital ID bracelet put on, the nurse will explain our system of baby and mother identification. Three matching bracelets will be issued: one for you, one for your baby and one for the father, your partner or your third person of choice. This identification is checked each time your baby is brought to you.
Security guidelines

The very best security is provided by you. Please use the following as guidelines for ensuring your baby’s safety.
- Never leave your baby unattended.
- When using the in-room bathroom, close your outside hallway door and keep your bathroom door open to watch your baby.
- When the baby is in your room and you or a family member is not holding your baby, use the bassinet. If you leave the room, even for a short time, ask the nurse to have someone watch your baby.
- Do not let visitors take your baby out of your room. Babies may not be taken outside the Family Birth Center to go to other areas of the hospital unless accompanied by a Family Birth Center staff member.
- Ask to see the identification of anyone who comes to take your baby for a test or procedure. Do not give your baby to anyone who is not wearing a Methodist Hospital ID badge. Do not hesitate to ask staff where your baby will be taken and for what purpose. Or, better yet, accompany your baby at all times.
- Notify your nurse if you have concerns about unusual or suspicious behavior.
- Your baby will be released from the baby room or nursery only to you or the person wearing the third matching Methodist Hospital ID band.
