Binge-eating disorder program

Our binge-eating disorder program is composed of two phases, and is led by mental health professionals and registered dietitians.  Phase 1 meets weekly for 12 weeks.  Phase 2 is optional and designed for those who need additional support and reinforcement of skills from Phase 1.  Phase 2 meets weekly for eight weeks.

Participants learn to manage stress, decrease episodes of binge eating, and help change their thinking about food, weight and self-esteem through what is called cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy combines two powerful tools – therapy that addresses how people think with how they react – to stop symptoms and get lives back on track.

Our program is structured into two phases

Phase 1: Weekly, three-hour sessions

  • Cover components of normal eating, food beliefs, eating habits and coping skills to help change binge-eating behaviors
  • Work on ways to balance physical and emotional well-being
  • Incorporate relaxation exercises

Phase 2: Weekly, three-hour sessions

  • Build on skills learned in Phase 1
  • Incorporate body-movement awareness activities
  • Discuss body image, self-esteem, assertiveness, impulse control, stress management and preventing relapse
