Thank you so much
I just wanted to thank you so much for all the help I got when I came to Methodist. It was so difficult and such a scary time for me, and you all made me feel so much better. I immediately was able to put my trust in you. I can’t tell you how great it felt to have some people whom I could trust right away and be able to talk to about my eating disorder. You all gave me so much encouragement. Thank you so much.

... it is not hopeless
I was a patient of the Eating Disorders Institute for about a year, before I went off to college. I remember being in the hospital and wondering how you guys did what you did, because no one ever seemed to get better. Talking to us was like talking to a wall. I thought we were hopeless.
The purpose of this letter is to tell you that it is not hopeless, because I am doing fabulously. I hope you find this heartening, because I know your job must be frustrating at times. So whenever you get upset, and think that perhaps everyone is trying in vain to help people who don’t want to be helped, please remember this.
Thank you to everyone at EDI. I am a molecular biology major at a very respected school, and I am going to Harvard next year. I’m now able to function in life … you don’t know how much easier and better my life is now.

The beauty of life
I want to thank you from my heart for all you do for the patients in this program. Your dedication and support make a difference in our lives! I should apologize for any difficulty I created while I was an inpatient. That was a very confusing and frustrating time in my life, and, looking back, I know I may have made parts of your job frustrating. Please accept my humble apologies and very sincere thankfulness. I learned a lot during my time here, and was spurred on to do so much more with my life as I went through recovery. A lot of people have done the same because of this quality program, run by a wonderful group of people. I truly believe God is using each of you to help remind the patients here of the beauty of life. Thank you for being a blessing to me and my family, and for caring about us.

... you are helping to change lives
I wanted you to know I think of this place and all of you very often. While here, you have become my friends and supporters in my fight. Every day is a struggle in different ways, but I realize everyone has stress. I have finally begun to live life, and it feels great. And I owe so much of my progress to all of you.
I wanted to tell all of you, if some days at work are long or hard and eating disorders are fighting back, please know you are helping to change lives. I am proof. I hope you realize the blessing you have been to my family and me. Thank you for believing in me. I am forever grateful.

Life is good
Although I have had many struggles along the way, I am proud to say I am doing well. Being free from my eating disorder is a feeling I totally can’t explain. It’s awesome! I love life! Well, there’s more, too. I’m engaged and getting married next July. Life is so good. I thank God every day for a happy, healthy life. And I thank you all for believing in me, supporting me and caring for me. I love you all!
