History

1978 Paul Silverstein, MD, and Felix Zwiebel, MD, establish Methodist Hospital Parkinson's Center.
1987 First annual Progress & Possibilities educational conference is offered.
1991 Parkinson's in-home respite care program begins, and community advisory board is established.
1993 Park Nicollet Foundation's Celebration for Life gala raises start-up funds for new, expanded center.
1994 Struthers family's initial commitment provides a new location and a permanent facility.
1995 CREATE (Clinical, Research, Education, Artistic and Therapeutic Endeavors) program established. National Parkinson Foundation designates Struthers Parkinson's Center as a Center of Excellence.
1996 Struthers Parkinson's Center hosts National Parkinson Foundation Coordinators Conference. Center expands to five neurologists.
1997 Silverstein and Zwiebel, along with staff and supporters, celebrate the center's 20th anniversary.
1999 Struthers Parkinson's Center receives accreditation, meeting standards set by the Council for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for excellence in rehabilitation programs. The Evelyn Struthers Operating Endowment Fund is established, and George and Ellen Schulte establish the first research grant, allowing the center to hire a full-time research director.
2000 Martha Nance, MD, is named medical director when Silverstein retires. Struthers Parkinson's Center's support group network offers more than 80 support groups in the Midwest, and the center launches the Parkinson's Disease Educator course. Richard and Glenda Struthers provide a major grant for a new addition, expanding clinical programming.
2001 Club CREATE therapeutic day program expands to four days a week to meet demand. Paul M. Silverstein Community Service Awards are established.
2002 Center receives its first federally funded National Institutes of Health grant to study new medications for Parkinson's disease.
2003

Center ranks among top service areas for patient satisfaction within Park Nicollet Health Services.

2005

Park Nicollet Foundations's "Make it better" capital campain is launched, with the center as one of five fundraising priorities.

2006

Center staff present at first World Parkinson Congress.

Club CREATE expands to five days a week, offering services to 25 more patients each week.
