Relaxation and stress reduction

Parkinsons' patients working in a garden.Stress can make Parkinson’s disease symptoms worse. Involuntary movements and freezing episodes often become more noticeable with stress, especially when you feel rushed. You may notice your symptoms are better when you are in a stress-free environment.

A variety of ways exist to help your body and mind relax, including the following.

  • Cue parts of your body to feel warm and relaxed.
  • Focus on a few moments of deep breathing.
  • Listen to quiet music or nature sounds.
  • Do tai chi, yoga or another exercise.
  • Pray or meditate.
  • Take a walk.
  • Work in your garden.
  • Care for a pet.

For more information on relaxation and stress reduction, call 952-993-5495 or toll-free at 888-993-5495.
