Falls prevention assessment
Falling is a major health risk for people with Parkinson’s. It is a cause of overall decline in mobility and independence.
Research conducted by Struthers Parkinson’s Center has shown that more than 50 percent of our patients have fallen in the past two years, leading to fractures, hospitalizations and increased disability.
Medication changes are not always effective in minimizing this danger. To reduce or eliminate falls, patients can undergo a three-hour assessment that evaluates:
-
visual perception
-
learning and memory skills
-
balance during daily tasks
-
walking safety
-
assistive devices
Patients receive follow-up recommendations for minimizing their risk of falling. To schedule a falls assessment, call the center at 952-993-5495 or toll-free at 888-993-5495.
