Certified nurse-midwives
In addition to highly skilled obstetricians, certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) also can provide care to low-risk patients. CNMs offer a unique health care approach to women during their childbearing years and beyond.
A CNM is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in nursing, specializing in women’s health, including pregnancy and childbirth. Nurse-midwives have national board certification through the American College of Nurse-Midwives and have an outstanding safety record.
CNMs provide:
-
obstetrical care for healthy women (prenatal care, labor support, pain relief measures and medications, vaginal deliveries, postpartum follow-up and breastfeeding support)
-
complete well-women exams that emphasize education and healthy lifestyles
-
preconception care
-
gynecological and contraceptive needs
-
perimenopausal care and education

CenteringPregnancy®
Group prenatal care by certified nurse-midwives
CenteringPregnancy’s group prenatal care is a new option at Park Nicollet during pregnancy. Each group includes 10 to 12 women expecting babies around the same time,
and is lead by a CNM. Groups meet for two-hour sessions, at regular intervals, throughout pregnancy. Each session includes private time with your midwife and then group discussion about common concerns, such as nutrition, relationships, breastfeeding, labor and delivery.
Centering groups currently are offered at four Park Nicollet Clinic locations: Brookdale, Meadowbrook, Minneapolis and Shakopee. You can join when you are 16 to 20 weeks pregnant. Session schedules vary.
If you would like to join a CenteringPregnancy group, call 952-993-3426.
