Decisions during pregnancy

Many decisions related to the care of you and your baby come with pregnancy. Following are some decisions you will have to make, and resources to help you make informed choices.

Circumcision

Circumcision removes the foreskin (the covering of the head of the penis). This is done surgically. Consider the benefits, risks and other factors when making the choice to circumcise male infants.

Genetic counseling

Perinatology services provides genetic counseling that is supervised by our perinatologists. The science of prenatal genetics is making giant strides. To help ensure the best possible pregnancy outcomes, it is important for patients to understand options. Your doctor may refer you to help assess any genetic problems.

Infant feeding options

Whether to breastfeed or formula feed your infant is a very personal and important decision. Gather as much information as you can about both options before your baby is born. Some women choose formula-feeding because they are returning to work. However, many employers today offer accommodations for breastfeeding mothers. Other women may have had difficulty with breastfeeding before and decide not to try again. Either way, remember that it is easier to stop breastfeeding after a few days than it is to start breastfeeding several days after your baby's birth.

As a leader in breastfeeding support, Breastfeeding Center @ Park Nicollet provides assistance to help ensure a successful breastfeeding experience.
