Program offerings

Not all units are offered on a regular basis. Please contact the Spiritual Care office or Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) supervisor for current programs.

Summer internship

This is a 400-hour, full-time ministry training experience. It runs for 11 weeks and includes a variety of clinical experiences and emergency on-call coverage. This internship is open to clergy, seminary students, members of religious orders and lay people commissioned by a religious community.

Extended unit internships

These units offer part-time CPE experiences that vary in their length of terms, but each covers 400 hours of ministry training. Extended units range from 13 weeks to 27 weeks, with time commitments ranging from 26 hours to 17 hours per week. This internship is open to clergy, seminary students, members of religious orders and lay people commissioned by a religious community.

Year-long residency

This program provides advanced clinical training in pastoral care. This is a comprehensive, full-time program, with a stipend, that begins in September. Prerequisites typically include completion of one unit of accredited CPE and a graduate theological degree or membership in a religious order. Ordination or pastoral experience is preferred, but not required.

Supervisor-in-training (SIT)

This program trains advanced students in the theory and practice of CPE supervision. SIT students work with individuals and groups. They receive individual supervision, and also participate in the Twin Cities CPE Supervisory Consultation Group.
