Preparing for surgery or treatment

Your surgeon will tell you how to prepare for surgery or treatment. Follow these instructions to make sure the procedure goes as smoothly as possible and you avoid complications. Your surgeon will talk with you about:

• food and beverage guidelines
• risks of smoking
• taking medications and vitamins
• arranging for a ride home after surgery and to help you out for a few days, if needed
• avoiding aspirin and aspirin-like medications, such as Motrin_® and ibuprofen
