Breast

For many women, breasts are a defining feature and a symbol of womanhood.

Park Nicollet provides the following procedures for cosmetic enhancement, reduction and reconstruction (after surgery or after breast removal for breast cancer patients).

Treatment Purpose Length of procedure Recovery time
Breast augmentation
•  Increase breast size
•  Correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy
•  Balance a difference in breast size
•  Reconstruct a breast or breasts after surgery
One hour to two hours
•  Five to seven days
Breast lift Raise, reshape, and tighten sagging breasts 1 ½ hours to 3 ½ hours Scars will become less lumpy and red after a few months, but scarring is permanent
Breast reconstruction Reconstruct a breast after a mastectomy 1 ½ hours to 6 hours, depending on the procedure used
 
Breast reduction Remove fat, glandular tissue and skin, making breasts smaller, lighter, more firm and proportionate to rest of the body Two hours to four hours
•  Can return to work in one to two weeks
•  Swelling, bruising disappear in a few weeks, but may take six months to one year for breasts to settle into new shape
