Eyelid surgery

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove fat — and usually excess skin and muscle — from upper and lower eyelids.

This surgery:

  • helps correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes that make you look older and may interfere with your vision
  • can be performed along with other procedures, such as face-lifts or brow lifts

Are you a candidate?

Before making a decision, talk to your surgeon about your expectations. The best candidates are healthy men and women who are psychologically stable and have realistic expectations.

Complications, risks

When surgery is performed by our qualified plastic surgeons, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon's instructions before and after surgery.

Your consultation

You will need to bring any information from your most recent eye examination and your eyeglasses or contact lenses. You and your surgeon will carefully discuss goals and expectations, and decide if you are having surgery on two eyelids or all four eyelids, if you are having any fat removed and if you need or want more procedures.

Most insurance companies will cover the cost of eyelid surgery if your eyelids are interfering with your vision. Check with your insurance carrier for any questions about your coverage. More about consultations.
