Safe exercise
Exercising may be one of the best things you can do for your diabetes and your overall health. It can:
-
lower blood glucose
-
help your body use insulin better
-
create a feeling of health and well-being
-
increase energy
-
improve heart health and lower blood pressure
-
increase strength, endurance and flexibility
-
lead to weight loss or maintenance
Diabetes or no diabetes, it is a good idea to talk to your health care provider before beginning an exercise program.
Before you begin exercising, be sure you know how to exercise safely with diabetes. Physical activity affects people differently, depending on what type of diabetes they have and their treatment method.
What to take with you when you exercise:

identification and medical ID
-
source of carbohydrate, such as glucose tablets or small granola bar
-
full water bottle
-
meter and test strips
-
cellular telephone or change for a pay telephone
-
fanny pack to carry supplies
