Triggers

For most people, asthma episodes are triggered by one or more factors such as allergens, infections, irritants or exercise. What causes an asthma episode in one person may not bother another person who has asthma. Therefore, sometimes we refer to asthma by specific terms that identify the primary trigger. For example: occupational asthma, exercise-induced asthma, allergic asthma. The basic treatment for each type of asthma is the same: avoid the triggers and control the inflammation and bronchospasm.
