The majority of our surgeries are performed laparoscopically, involving several small incisions rather than one large one. This procedure causes fewer complications and greatly reduces recovery time. Our surgeons have additional training to perform this advanced procedure, which requires a great deal of skill.

Outpatient adjustable gastric band surgery offers patients an additional, convenient option that requires no overnight hospital stay.

After an intense analysis of its quality of care, Park Nicollet Bariatric Surgery Center has been designated a Center of Excellence by American Society for Bariatric Surgery. The Centers of Excellence program recognizes organizations that practice only top-quality care, ensuring the most successful outcome possible for each patient.

To earn the Center of Excellence designation, Park Nicollet Bariatric Surgery underwent a series of site inspections. All aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined as well as data on health outcomes.

In 2007, Park Nicollet Bariatric Surgery Center's leak rate at the staple line from gastric bypass surgery was 0.8 percent, compared to 2 percent to 3 percent nationally. Our mortality rate is zero in 2007 and 0.1 percent for all time, compared to 0.1 percent among other centers of excellences and 0.5 percent for all national centers.

Patients are able to meet with a bariatrician, dietitian and physical therapist, which means the various providers collaborate and provide greater continuity of care.

Our nurses are well-educated on the care and needs of bariatric surgery patients. The unit includes larger rooms, bariatric furniture and equipment, and special training for nursing staff.

Our insurance specialists work exclusively with bariatric patients and providers. We will do all the work for you, speaking directly to your insurance provider to determine your coverage. If needed, our specialists will discuss other financial options with you, including available financing plans.

After surgery is complete, patients receive regularly scheduled support from bariatric nurses and dietitians. Psychologists and physical therapists also provide support, as needed. These support services are all provided within our center. Five support and education groups are led by a nurse clinician each month.
