Physical therapy
Physical therapy provides comprehensive evaluation, education and exercise instruction for patients whose physical health and ability to exercise has been impacted by eating disorder behaviors. Emphasis is placed on helping patients define the role exercise plays in their eating disorder and how it can be used as a positive recovery tool. Past and present exercise patterns are evaluated. Future exercise goals and home programming are established.
With help from a physical therapist, patients will:
-
identify the role exercise plays in their eating disorder
-
explore ways to value exercise beyond weight management
-
discuss ways to use exercise for recovery
-
establish personal exercise goals and motivators
-
develop exercise plans guided by physical and behavior abilities
-
monitor exercise performance against an established exercise plan, addressing frequency, duration, intensity, exercise type, support systems and motivators
-
continually revise their exercise plan based on input from a therapist, families and other therapy team members
