Hearing experts agree that prolonged, continued exposure to noise at levels above 85 decibels (dBA) will cause hearing loss. However, volume isn’t the only factor to consider when determining potential hearing loss. Exposure time also is important. For instance, the maximum exposure time at 85 dBA before hearing loss begins to occur is 8 hours. At increased volumes, such as 110 dBA, maximum exposure time is only 15 minutes.
