Caring for Men: 20s

Preventive care
Preventive care helps keep you healthy and identify problems early, when they’re easier to treat. A typical preventative care exam – often referred to as a physical or well visit – includes:

  • Physical exam, including height, weight and BMI
  • Blood pressure check; every two years if less than 120/80 mm Hg; every year if 120–139/80–89 mm Hg
  • Immunizations:
    • Influenza: every year
    • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertusis (Td/Tdap): Tdap once, then Td every 10 years
    • Varicella (chickenpox): two doses if not had before and not immune to chickenpox

Find a primary care doctor
Choosing a primary care doctor will help you be your healthiest through all of life’s changes, big or small. Your doctor will get to know you and your health history and will understand your needs and preferences. Your doctor can help you avoid problems later in life with simple screenings and care, and partner with you on wellness and prevention.
