Caring for our community since 1959

The major project currently taking place is the largest facility improvement on the Methodist Hospital campus since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. The project will add two floors to the hospital, update and enhance the surgery areas and convert nearly all patient rooms to private.

As a not-for-profit organization, Methodist is able to reinvest its net margin in programs and facility improvements that provide long-term benefits to the community.

Other major reinvestments have included the Heart & Vascular Center, Frauenshuh Cancer Center, the Women’s Center, the Emergency Center and the Family Birth Center.

Sustainability in a healing environment

After completion of the ongoing project, energy consumption at Methodist Hospital will be reduced by 10 percent. Some highlights of the new sustainability features include:

  • The new design will maximize the use of natural lighting. Lighting in other areas will use LED technology that uses less energy and lasts longer than incandescent lighting.
  • Eighty percent of construction waste will be recycled.
  • Sterilization areas will become more water efficient.
  • New finishes will be made of recycled material or low VOC (voltage organic compounds) materials, which emit fewer chemical vapors.
  • The new design will allow for connection to the future Southwest light rail line, which is planned to be located two blocks to the north of the hospital.
