My Areas of Practice

As a psychologist, I have years of experience working with a wide range of mental health problems.  These include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, grief and loss, stress management, life transitions, and trauma recovery.  My theoretical orientation is solidly grounded in scientific research and I tend to focus on the whole person (mind-body connection), supported by a balanced and healthy lifestyle.  Mental health and physical health are intertwined.  You can't treat one without affecting the other.  I encourage my patients to understand and utilize the interface between science, contemplative practice, and practical wisdom.  When your mind changes your brain changes, because thoughts and feelings greatly impact our brains.

I try to strike a healthy balance between my work and my personal life.  My family and friends keep me from taking myself too seriously if I become too intense.  I have learned the skill of relaxing, being in the moment, and taking pleasure in the mundane aspects of life.  I have many interests, but my favorite thing is to learn something new.
